A Reverse Phone Lookup Saved Me From Making a Mistake

I recently received an enticing e-mail newsletter about an offer to work for Google part time putting up links. The offer which seemed too good to be true was complete with testimonials, various news links and very specific details about how to do it. The offer even included warnings about other scams that were similar and a helpline for setting up an account. As a person who has a tendency to be skeptical, I decided to investigate the claim a little further with a reverse phone lookup. Sure enough my suspicions were true, as the background search turned up multiple warnings.

What shocked me most about this particular incident was not that I had received a scam e-mail, but how realistic the offer appeared. With advancements on the web, it's important to be more careful than ever to avoid making a critical mistake. Needing only a limited amount of information, crimes such as credit card fraud are easier than ever to commit. With most people not bothering to make their cell phones unlisted, it's likely that you may see some advanced phone scams in the near future as well.

While the "Work From Home" scam is not the first, nor will it be the last hoax I'll receive, I'm glad that I had the foresight to investigate further with a reverse phone lookup. With my mind now at ease, performing a complete background check helped remind me that if something appears too good to be true, it probably is.
