Kind-Hearted Male Model
Glen Stewart Godwin of Palm Springs, California, is a former male model with a kind heart. Glen is a sharp dresser, and an avid tennis player with a penchant for dressing sharp. Glen is also known to have a taste for champagne, and an eye the ladies.
Godwin has also been on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list since December of 1996 for first degree murder as well as escaping two prisons, one in Represa, California in 1987, and again from Guadalajara, Mexico in 1991. His initial convictions were for murder and drug trafficking.
This convicted killer and escape artist started his crimes by betraying his friend Kim LeValley in 1980. LeValley was robbed, then stabbed 26 times with a kitchen knife. Godwin and his accomplices then discarded the body by attempting to blow it up in a truck in a remote location. The force of the explosion caused LeValley's torso to be thrown clear of the vehicle, leaving police able to identify the body, and resulted in a sentence for Godwin of 26 years to life for the murder.
Godwin served time in multiple California facilities, but was moved to Folsom State maximum security prison after a failed escape attempt. Godwin's prison files were tampered with, and as a result, he was classified as only medium security, and was placed on a maintenance crew, was allowed contact visits, and was not under strict supervision.
A frequent visitor was Godwin's wife, Shelly, who officials believe relayed escape plans to Godwin's accomplice, Lorenz Karlic. Godwin was performing lawn maintenance on June 6, 1987, and made his break by climbing through a storm drain and making his way to a river where a raft had been left for him.
Godwin's freedom didn't last long; he was arrested in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico five months later for drug trafficking, and was sentenced to seven years at Grande Federal Prison in Guadalajara, Mexico. The FBI made a request to Mexican authorities to get him brought back to the United States, but while that request was pending, Godwin allegedly murdered a fellow inmate, and, five months later, escaped prison again.
